Raiders bounce back with sweep of Evergreen

OLYMPIA, Wash. – Southern Oregon's response to its first loss of the season was an emphatic 25-17, 25-20, 25-14 win against Evergreen (Wash.) on Saturday night at Costantino Recreation Center, giving the ninth-ranked Raiders a split of their road trip ahead of a five-match homestand.

Taylor Ristvedt exploded again for 15 kills on 25 attacks without an error, and Malie Rube stepped up with a season-high 10 kills on 17 swings in the Raiders' 30th consecutive head-to-head win against the Geoducks (7-10 overall, 5-3 Cascade Conference).

SOU upped its record to 15-1 overall and 8-1 in the CCC with its 13th sweep of the season, retaining a hold on first place. A matchup between Eastern Oregon and Corban, the only other one-loss teams in the conference, was still in progress at the time of publication.

The Raiders dominated a first set in which Ristevedt and Rube tallied five kills apiece. Up 10-9, they stormed ahead with a 10-1 run.

The second set featured 14 ties and five lead changes, but the Raiders ran off six unanswered points after trailing 16-15 during a rally in which Ristvedt deposited a pair of kills and teamed up with Elliott Cook for a block.

In the third frame, the Raiders hit .452 – putting down 16 kills with two errors while holding the Geoducks to eight kills and six errors.

Natalie James had 29 assists and seven digs and Hannah Bogatin added 13 assists and four digs in helping the Raiders to a .365 attacking average for the match. It was the 10th time this season the Raiders have hit over .300.

Makayla Hoyt added eight kills, Cook had seven and Dani Johnson added six.

SOU will be home next Friday and Saturday to host Northwest Christian and Corban. Both matches start at 7 p.m.
