KIRKLAND, Wash. –
Syd Fryer was the face of another hot 3-point shooting night for 19th-ranked Southern Oregon as the Raiders held off Northwest (Wash.), 79-72, to complete weekend road sweep Saturday night at Kristi Brodin Pavilion.
Fryer went for 19 points and 12 rebounds, her second double-double of the season, and made all three of her 3-point tries. The Raiders went 12-of-23 from behind the arc as a team and improved to 14-5 overall and 10-3 in the Cascade Conference.
The Raiders never trailed after the opening minute but, with their lead down to 63-61 and under eight minutes left, they used an 8-0 run keyed by a clutch
Daranda Hinkey triple to put the game away.
Destinee Jones pitched in 15 points, six rebounds and two steals.
Ariel Augustine nailed four 3-pointers to get to 15 points, while
Sophia Altemus (11 points, 3 rebounds) and Dominique harding (10 points, 5 assists) both went 2-of-3 from outside.
It was the third time this season SOU has shot 50 percent or better from 3-point range while making at least 12.
The Raiders, still sitting in second place, are 6-1 in January heading into home games against Multnomah and Warner Pacific next Friday and Saturday.
Fryer shot 6-of-10 from the field, and her rebound total was a career-high. She scored 15 or more in three of SOU's last four games, and Augustine has been in double figures eight games in a row.
Sam Van Loo led four players in double figures for Northwest with 18 points, seven rebounds and four assists. The Eagles dropped to 7-16 and 4-9 in the CCC.
The win was SOU's 15th straight in the head-to-head series.
