COLLEGE PLACE, Wash. –
Alan Gaytan,
Junior Rivas and
Adrian Villegas scored two goals apiece, and Villegas tied Southern Oregon's single-game assist record as the Raiders picked apart Walla Walla (Wash.) in a 10-0 Cascade Conference victory on Friday afternoon.
Gaytan, a freshman from Troutdale, scored two of SOU's first three goals in the opening 20 minutes. Villegas, a freshman from Hood River, had one in between and set up Gaytan's second, eventually becoming the first Raider to record three assists since 2016 and matching the team's single-game points mark with seven.
The Raiders bumped their record to 5-4 overall and 3-1 in the Cascade Conference while extending their winning streak to three games. They'll put it on the line Sunday in a key clash at second-place Rocky Mountain (Mont.), which improved to 4-1 in the CCC on Friday by defeating Oregon Tech.
The Raiders deposited six goals in the first 40 minutes en route to their second double-figure output of the season. In five all-time matchups with the Wolves (3-8, 1-5), they've outscored them 45-2.
In the latest, they outshot WWU 36-2 and didn't concede a shot on goal.
Four more Raiders got on the board:
Noah Addie,
Luis Aguilar,
Daniel McDevitt and
Sam Walker. Addie, Rivas,
Jared Delaney and
Michael Miller were each credited with assists.
The Wolves prevented further damage with 13 saves. Rivas logged a team-high eight shots on goal, establishing a new SOU record.
Villegas now leads the squad in goals (7) and points (18), while Miller brought his team-high assist total to five.
