BILLINGS, Mont. – Rocky Mountain (Mont.) senior forward Lauryn Gamache broke Southern Oregon's hearts again on Sunday, putting a bow on top of an electrifying career against the Raiders for a 1-0 Bears win at Wendy's Field.
With time winding down in a scoreless game, RMC's Hannah Borgel snuck a pass through to Gamache, who got by a Raider defender and into space. The longtime Raider nemesis then drove a strike into the top of the net with 52 seconds showing on the clock.
The result put 23rd-ranked SOU at 5-3-1 overall and 2-1-1 in the Cascade Conference. The Bears went to 7-2-1 and 4-1-1.
In four career games against the Raiders, Gamache has deposited five goals with three game-winners. As a freshman in 2016, she had the lone score in the 60th minute at Raider Stadium. A year later, she carried RMC back from a 3-1 deficit with three unanswered, including the golden goal in the 106th minute.
The latest was her seventh of the season.
SOU keeper
Kailey Lemon made a career-high 12 saves before it got through. Maia Wetzel collected six to secure the shutout for RMC, stopping three shots on goal by
Misty Martinez and two by
Ruth Hegstad.
The Bears also had advantages of 8-1 in corner kicks and 21-10 in total shots.
SOU will return home for its next two matchups, at 2:30 p.m. Friday against College of Idaho and 1:30 p.m. Saturday against sixth-ranked Eastern Oregon.
