Humboldt makes late move to beat SOU in exhibition

ARCATA, Calif. – Humboldt State turned a six-point deficit with 13 minutes to go into an 89-75 exhibition win over Southern Oregon on Tuesday night at Lumberjack Arena, shooting 63 percent from the field in the second half.

The Lumberjacks, NCAA Division II members of the California Collegiate Athletic Association, led 70-67 with six minutes to go before putting the game away with a 12-1 run that Jackson Strong punctuated with his fifth 3-pointer. Strong and NCAA Div. I transfers Robert Lewis and RaySean Scott Jr. led all players with 19 points apiece.

Jayson McMillan scored 14 on 4-of-6 shooting from 3 and Jordan Hunt recorded all 13 of his points in the second half to lead the Raiders. Teron Bradford and Kerry Cook both added 10, and Tate Hoffman had nine points and eight rebounds.

The Raiders trailed 15-2 before settling in, ending with a 48-percent mark from the field (26-of-54). They turned a 36-31 halftime deficit into a 47-41 edge behind Hunt, who scored their first nine points of the second.

SOU – which went 1-1 at the season-opening Montana Tech Tip-Off Classic over the weekend – won't play its next counters until Nov. 15-16 at the Lithia Oregon Tech Classic against Antelope Valley (Calif.) and UC Merced.
