SAN FRANCISCO – A riding time point in the final match was the difference in San Francisco State's 24-19 dual win over the Southern Oregon men's wrestling team inside The Swamp on Tuesday night.

The Raiders' encouraging effort was spoiled by the Gators (5-2) – who previously defeated Cascade Conference heavyweights Montana State-Northern and Providence (Mont.) – when 285-pounder Justin Ramos clinched the outcome with a 2-1 decision over Tanner Clark.

Cylus Hoke, a 197-pound freshman, had given SOU (3-4) life in the previous match when he cut a 21-13 deficit to two points with a pin one minute into his bout with John Chetwynd.

Beau Shatto (125) and 12th-ranked Justin Coon (133) sparked the Raiders with back-to-back wins to open the dual. Shatto started by dictating a 5-2 decision over Aria Mazroy, and Coon made it 9-0 when, leading 4-3 in the final moments of the second round, he finished Angelo Reyes with a fall.

The Gators took the next three. Alex Felix's 10-9 decision over Matt Peterson was decided by a riding time point at 141, Jeremy Huang (149) beat Jacky Hawkins 9-3, and Maxamillian Schneider gave SFSU a 12-9 edge by pinning Matt Peterson midway through the first round.

Noah Talavera (165) briefly took the lead back for the Raiders with a 15-6 major decision against Tyee Ducharme, but the Gators reclaimed control as Maleselino Salt (174) got Kama Suzuki-Scott by decision and fifth-ranked Justin Pichedwatana (184) pinned Josh Hammers in 1:32.

The Raiders will be back in action Thursday at home against 13th-ranked Menlo (Calif.). The dual is scheduled to start at 6 p.m.
