ATHERTON, Calif. – Tight losses piled up for the 18th-ranked Southern Oregon men's wrestling team in a 32-8 dual loss to No. 6 Menlo (Calif.) on Friday night at Haynes Prim Pavilion.

SOU's Devin Poppen, the defending Cascade Conference champion at 141 pounds, earned a 5-3 upset victory over 13th-ranked Joseph Dominguez by scoring the go-ahead takedown with 37 seconds to go, and 20th-ranked heavyweight Max Hane got his second win in as many nights by finishing off a 17-0 technical fall in the second round against Elly Gorelik.

The seven other contests went Menlo's way, mostly in gut-wrenching fashion.

To boot: Riley Siason, Menlo's 10th-ranked 125-pounder, upset Pancho Barrera, 5-4, on a takedown with 35 seconds left; Kevin James held off Hunter Hodges late for a 5-4 win at 157; and 13th-ranked Bruce Valdez upset fourth-ranked Tanner Fischer, 8-7 at 197, thanks to a four-point near fall near the end of the second period that swung the bout.

In the top-billed match of the night at 149, sixth-ranked Terrill Sidner shut down fourth-ranked Chandler Michael, 4-1, to improve to 18-0 on the season.

Second-ranked Anthony Orozco (184) and sixth-ranked Alex Garcia (165) registered technical falls for the Oaks. They also picked up one forfeit win.

Poppen's win made him 16-6. Hane went to 9-2 in dual action.
