COMPLETE TOURNAMENT RESULTS

*Correction: SOU's Pancho Barrera did not earn one of the six automatic national qualifying bids at 125 pounds. After dropping his fifth-place match, he lost a "true placing" match against the seventh-place match winner that was not provided in the tournament results.

GREAT FALLS, Mont.
– Southern Oregon's Devin Poppen got to celebrate again and Chandler Michael joined him on the top podium Saturday as the seniors came through for the Raiders at the McLaughlin Center on Day 2 of the Cascade Conference Championships presented by U.S. Bank.

SOU ended up fifth in the team point standings and produced four automatic qualifiers for the upcoming NAIA Championships: Michael (149 pounds), Poppen (141), Justin Coon (133) and Tanner Fischer (197).

Fifth-ranked Embry-Riddle (Ariz.) celebrated the team title at the second annual event, amassing 136 points to Menlo (Calif.)'s 131 and Providence (Mont.)'s 124.

The Raiders were one of five teams with two individual champions and had an additional finalist in Coon, who entered the tournament unseeded.

Poppen defended his 141-pound title to continue a late-season hot streak marked by 12 consecutive victories. Ranked No. 12 in the NAIA and seeded No. 3 in the tournament, he started the day by pinning second-seeded and sixth-ranked David Salazar of Embry-Riddle in the semifinals, then dominated fourth-seeded Joseph Dominguez by 11-1 major decision in the championship.

He went to 25-5 on the season and upped his pin total to 18. In four career appearances at conference/regional tournaments, he only lost once – his first match of his freshman season, from which he rebounded to finish third place. He'll now attempt to become an All-American for the first time.

Michael, an All-American last season, captured his first CCC title at 149 pounds after placing third in 2018. He needed just 43 seconds to pin Embry-Riddle's Berit Sturgeon in the semifinals before getting some revenge. Forty seconds into the third period of his championship match, he finished Menlo's top-seeded and third-ranked Terrill Sidner by fall, two weeks after Sidner defeated him in a dual matchup.

Michael, ranked fifth in the NAIA and seeded second, pinned his last three opponents of the tournament and earned bonus points in all four of his wins. He's now a four-time qualifier for the national tournament and will going into his last one with a 19-5 record.

Coon – who upset Montana State-Northern's Landon Bailey in Friday's quarterfinals – picked off another ranked opponent, No. 20 Collin Anderson of Embry-Riddle, by 6-4 sudden victory in the semis. He nearly did the same to No. 10 Blaysen Terukina in the 133-pound championship but was edged 5-4.

Fischer qualified by placing fourth at 197. He lost to Providence's John Hensley in Friday's quarterfinals but bounced back with two consolation wins, two by fall and another by major decision, before Hensley beat him again, 4-3, in the third-place match.

Senior heavyweight Max Hane took fifth with a third-round pin of Eastern Oregon's Noel Orozco in his placing match.

At 125, Pancho Barrera can still qualify by a coaches vote despite going 0-3 on Saturday thanks to a loaded weight class that featured six ranked wrestlers. Hunter Hodges (157) and C.J. McKinnis (184) joined him with sixth-place finishes.
