SOU tops WWU for 5th straight win

COLLEGE PLACE, Wash. – The Southern Oregon women's basketball team set itself up nicely for a pivotal week ahead by finishing off a sweep of its back-to-back against Walla Walla (Wash.), winning 70-58 on Friday afternoon at Windemuth Court.

Sophomore guard Dominique Harding accumulated 19 points, seven rebounds and three steals, and SOU's well-rounded performance in the first half led to a 37-21 lead that only momentarily dipped into single digits as the second unfolded.

The Raiders (10-5 overall, 6-2 Cascade Conference) will bring a five-game winning streak into Tuesday's rivalry matchup against Oregon Tech, which will tip off at 5:30 p.m. inside Lithia Motors Pavilion. They'll remain at home next weekend to face Corban and Northwest Christian, which alongside OIT entered Friday's action on top of the CCC standings with one loss each.

The Raiders forced 20-plus turnovers for the fifth game in a row, getting the Wolves (2-15, 0-8) to cough up the ball 24 times total and 14 times before halftime.

Consecutive 3-point makes by Harding and Daranda Hinkey topped off a 13-3 run to end the second quarter. Kalei Iwami started the run with a triple of her own and eventually hit double figures for the second straight day, scoring 10 points off the bench.

Bryanna Raff shot 5-of-6 to score 11 points and Kami Walk had seven points and nine rebounds inside. Freshman reserve Annika Riddell added to the frontcourt production with six points on 3-of-4 shooting.

Harding – who has scored at least 15 on five occasions during CCC play – hit 6-of-9 attempts in the second half, where she scored 14 points. SOU had its biggest lead at 61-42 with a little more than five minutes remaining.

The Raiders have won all 10 of their CCC games against WWU since the Wolves joined the conference in 2015. They improved to 6-3 on the road this season.
