ATHERTON, Calif. – Southern Oregon gave the eighth-ranked team in the NAIA all it could handle Friday night at Haynes-Prim Pavilion, but Menlo (Calif.) escaped with a 26-18 victory by winning the last three matches in Cascade Conference dual action.

SOU 174-pounder Tanner Sallee put the Raiders up 18-11 with a 5-2 decision over Jordan Bernal before the decisive run started. Anthony Orozco, Menlo's top-ranked 184-pounder, cut the lead to one by pinning Josh Hammers in the second round, and 19th-ranked Oaks 197-pounder Afton Silvis stole it for the first time all night by edging Cylus Hoke, 2-1.

In the heavyweight finale, Elias Kennyard sealed the win with a pin of Tanner Clark in 25 seconds.

The Oaks went to 7-0 in dual contests. The Raiders dropped to 4-6 but came away with a pair of upset victories.

Freshman Lorenzo Vasquez picked up the first at 125 pounds, pinning 11th-ranked Eric Sanchez in 3:36. Junior Justin Acuff got the second at 141 with an 8-5 decision over seventh-ranked Eric Reyes, giving the Raiders a 9-5 lead.

JJ Talavera, SOU's 11th-ranked 157-pound sophomore, stayed hot with a second-round win by fall over Sebastian Marin. After Menlo's Alex Garcia defeated Noah Talavera by decision to trim the Raiders' advantage to 15-11, Sallee earned their last win of the contest.

SOU will compete Saturday at San Francisco State in the California Collegiate Classic before returning to dual action Jan. 31 at Arizona Christian.
