SOU gets loose in 4th quarter to collect 61-54 win at C of I

CALDWELL, Idaho – Freshman post Kami Walk and the Southern Oregon women's basketball team dominated the fourth quarter to come away with a 61-54 Cascade Conference road win over College of Idaho on Friday night at the J.A. Albertson Activities Center.

Walk scored 10 of her game-high 16 points on 5-of-7 shooting in the fourth, helping the Raiders oustscore C of I 25-15 during the period after being held to 29-percent shooting through the first three. They won for the eighth time in nine games, going to 13-6 overall and 9-3 in the CCC while maintaining their second-place standing.

Sophomore guard Dominique Harding amassed 12 points, five rebounds, four assists and three steals, getting SOU inside the Yotes defense for a 34-10 advantage in frontcourt scoring.

Trailing 41-38 with eight minutes to play, Kenadee Honaker and Kalei Iwami hit game-tying 3-pointers on back-to-back possession and Harding gave the Raiders the lead with another triple the next time down.

Walk took over from there, delivering buckets on three straight possessions midway through the fourth to keep the Raiders up 53-49, and Daranda Hinkey extended the lead to seven on a 3 with 2:45 to play.

SOU has won six straight on the road going into Saturday's 5:30 p.m. contest at Eastern Oregon, which will enter the matchup with a 7-3 conference mark.

The Yotes fell to 8-13 and 6-6. They were never up by more than three, though the lead changed hands 10 times and the game was tied at 10 points.

Sophia Jackson led C of I with 15 points, shooting 5-of-7 from beyond the arc, and Mackenzie Royce-Radford totaled 12 points and five assists.

Hinkey chipped in nine points. She and Danasia Allison collected three steals apiece as the Raiders forced 24 turnovers and limited the Yotes to a 33-percent clip from the field.
