ASHLAND – The Southern Oregon University volleyball team banked its first Cascade Conference home victory in tidy fashion Friday afternoon, defeating Walla Walla (Wash.) 25-12, 25-13, 25-18 at Lithia Motors Pavilion.
Hailey Van Well had 14 kills on 21 attacks, hitting double figures for the sixth straight match, and
Taylor Russell compiled 22 assists and five digs. She and
Gwen Sheldon, who added 13 assists, nudged the Raiders toward a .366 attacking average that was their highest in a month.
The Raiders improved to 10-8 overall and 5-8 in the CCC entering Saturday's 7 p.m. tilt against fifth-place Lewis-Clark State (Idaho), a key match as they attempt to get back into playoff position.
The Raiders got nine kills on nine attacks from
Simone Gordon in another sharp outing for the sophomore right-side, and 17 digs from senior libero
Kadyn Jones. But they also had several other contributions from up and down the roster.
Of note,
Kayla Neidigh had a season-high 10 digs,
Kylie Blankinship totaled five kills on seven attempts, and
Ani Farmer and
Taylor Jackson both had four blocks.
The Raiders accumulated eight blocks as a team and forced the Wolves (0-13, 0-12) into as many errors (19) as they had kills (19).
