SOU holds off Whitworth for 63-54 road win

SPOKANE, Wash. – Another stout performance on the defensive end led the Southern Oregon women's basketball team to a 63-54 win over Whitworth (Wash.) on Friday night in the Quality Inn Whit Classic.

Guards Brianna Phiakhamngon and Kalei Iwami led the Raiders with 13 points apiece. Phiakhamngon's jumper on the final possession of the third quarter put them up 40-37, and Iwami and Kenadee Honaker opened the fourth with back-to-back 3-pointers to give them their largest lead of the night.

With seven minutes left, another Iwami bucket capped the 10-0 run and made it 48-37. Forward Kami Walk scored seven of her nine points in the period to secure the win. She ended with nine points, seven rebounds and two steals.

The Raiders are off to a 2-0 start entering Saturday's 2 p.m. matchup with Whitman (Wash.). Whitworth was playing its first game of the season.

Dominique Harding helped spoil it by shooting 5-of-7 with 11 points, and Syd'Nee Fryer scored six while pulling down a game-high 11 rebounds.

The Raiders shot 40 percent from the field but were at their best in the fourth quarter, going 7-of-11.
