ASHLAND – Southern Oregon's frontcourt duo of
Syd'Nee Fryer and
Kami Walk found another gear for the Raiders in the third quarter of Wednesday's 70-41 rout of Embry-Riddle (Ariz.) inside Lithia Motors Pavilion.
After trailing 23-20 at halftime, SOU (3-1) outscored the Eagles (3-4) by 24 points in the third to change the tone of a once-frustrating evening. Fryer finished with 14 points, eight rebounds and five steals and Walk produced her second double-double with 19 points and 11 boards.
They ran up those numbers while instigating the turnaround. Fryer shot 4-of-6 in the quarter with a 3-pointer and four steals, leading the Raiders to force seven turnovers. Walk shot 3-of-4 with four boards, helping SOU go 12-of-17 from the field while the Eagles clanked nine of their 10 attempts.
The Raiders finished up at 60 percent from the field in the second half with 18 makes after shooting 7-of-25 in the first. The Eagles shot 27 percent on the night, the lowest mark yet for a Raider opponent.
Dominique Harding contributed 11 points. No other Raider scored more than four but 10 others chipped in.
In two home games over the last 10 days, the Raiders have combined to outscore their opponents, ERAU and Simpson, 57-13 in the third quarters.
Micaela Hidalgo's 3-pointer had put the Eagles in front before halftime as the Raiders went nearly five minutes without a field goal. SOU's initial run out of the break, bookended by Walk baskets inside, was 11-0.
Hidalgo led the Eagles with 10 points off the bench and Susie Reynoso scored nine with three steals. They had their largest lead at 14-7 in the first quarter after back-to-back triples.
Before the Raiders return home Tuesday to open Cascade Conference play against Oregon Tech, they'll meet Simpson (Calif.) on OIT's home floor at 2 p.m. Saturday.
