SOU salvages scoreless draw at Northwest

KIRKLAND, Wash. – The Southern Oregon women's soccer team found its footing defensively Monday and plucked one point from a back-to-back against Northwest (Wash.), tying the Cascade Conference series finale 0-0 at NU Athletic Field.

Making her on-field Raider debut, goalkeeper Ashlynn Hernandez came up big in the 110-minute affair with eight saves, five of which were required of her in the first half.

After giving up three goals in the first 27 minutes of Sunday's matchup with the Eagles (1-2-1, 1-0-1 CCC), SOU (0-1-1, 0-1-1) didn't allow any over the next 173.

The Raiders' issues generating an attack persisted. They put one shot on goal both days – Natalie Paul's on Sunday and Madison Childers's on Monday. NU keeper Kierstin Patefield benefited with her second straight shutout as the Eagles accumulated a 16-7 advantage in total shots.

SOU plays next Sunday and Monday against Bushnell, which is off to a 0-4 start. Though the games will be at Raider Stadium, fan attendance will not be permitted because Jackson County is in the "High" risk level for COVID-19 transmission.
