Geoducks trip up Raiders in 3

ASHLAND – The attack of Evergreen (Wash.) had too much size for Southern Oregon in a 27-25, 25-15, 25-20 sweep on Saturday night at Lithia Motors Pavilion.

Hannah Rongen (14 kills) and Lilly Stewart (12 kills), standing 6-foot and 6-2 respectively, combined for 26 kills on 44 attempts as Evergreen hit at a .252 clip as a team.

The Geoducks improved to 3-2 overall and 3-1 in the Cascade Conference, ending a 33-match losing streak in head-to-head matchups with the Raiders (7-2, 2-2).

Their height advantage also contributed to a total of 11 blocks compared to SOU's five. Jalyn Sackrider assisted nine of them, teaming up mostly with Stewart, who was in on seven.

The Raiders attacked .098 as a team, their first sub-.200 average of the season. The back row play of Sage Burgmeier, who had 15 digs, and Sierra Wolff, who had nine, contributed to their struggles.

Wolf controlled the attack with 36 assists. She helped a third Geoduck, Zoe Shaw, reach double figures in kills.

The Raiders got 15 kills from Hailey Van Well, 12 assists and six digs from Gwen Sheldon, and nine digs from Kadyn Jones. Sadie Byrd accounted for four of their five blocks.

They'll play three straight on the road next week, starting Tuesday at Oregon Tech.
