SOU rallies at Northwest for 3rd straight win

KIRKLAND, Wash. Atmar Mundu scored 19 points and the Southern Oregon men's basketball team executed its biggest comeback of the season to secure its third straight win, 72-69 over Northwest (Wash.) on Sunday afternoon at Kirsti Brodin Pavilion.

The Raiders overcame a nine-point over the last 12 minutes and Tez Allen scored their last seven to nail down the outcome, which made them 7-8 overall and 4-3 in the Cascade Conference.

Allen rebounded and put back his own miss with 31 seconds left to play, extending SOU's lead to three. Northwest's CaCoa Chatman and Devante Powell then missed 3-point chances for the tie in the final seconds.

The Eagles slipped to 5-7 overall and 2-5 in the CCC.

Allen finished with 13 points, nine rebounds and three steals. Josh Meyer, who played his first two collegiate seasons at Northwest, added 13 points, nine rebounds and two blocks in his homecoming. Allen and Meyer scored nine apiece in the second half, and Mundu had 11.

The Raiders trailed 43-34 at halftime and were down nine again after Rayvaugh Bolton's jumper with 13:27 to play. They got back into the fight with back-to-back three-point plays from Mundu and Whittaker, which sparked a 12-2 run.

K'wan Carter's jumper at the eight-minute mark put them ahead for good, 61-60, and Allen kept them in front with his clutch play in the final minutes.

Allen wrapped up the weekend with 43 points on 18-of-31 shooting. Mundu, who shot 6-of-10 against the Eagles, has averaged 17.8 points over his last four games; he averaged 4.6 over SOU's first 11.

Carter finished with nine points, six rebounds, three assists and two steals. Whittaker had seven points on 3-of-6 shooting, helping the Raiders to 43 percent from the field. The Eagles checked in at 47 percent but made 12 fewer free throws than SOU.

Bolton led Northwest with 16 points on 8-of-13 shooting. He was held to one bucket over the final 13 minutes.

The Raiders will be back home next week, hosting Walla Walla (Wash.) at 2 p.m. Friday and Lewis-Clark State (Idaho) at 5 p.m. Saturday.
