SOU banks point against No. 22 Yotes

ASHLAND – Southern Oregon lost a late lead but secured the draw and a four-point weekend against two nationally-ranked teams by tying No. 22 College of Idaho, 1-1, on Saturday afternoon at Raider Stadium.

In a scoreless game with 25 minutes left to play, SOU defender Sophia Connell served up an improbable assist to Mia Santander while being pressured at midfield – lofting the ball over the defense and allowing Santander to retrieve it in the box and line in the first goal.

The Yotes evened the score in the 76th minute when Gianna Yslava took a pass from Lily Schlake and struck the crossbar from 15 yards out, watching the ball bounce down and just over the line.

The Raiders, coming off Friday's 4-0 upset of No. 25 Eastern Oregon, brought their record to 6-4-3 overall and 5-1-2 in the Cascade Conference. They matched a program record by extending their unbeaten streak to seven games and are third in the CCC standings by win percentage with four regular-season contests left to play.

The Yotes (11-1-2, 7-0-2) – who have outscored opponents 28-2 during an active nine-game unbeaten streak – fell two points behind first-place Northwest (Wash.).

Raider keeper Jessie Selby preserved the point by making seven saves, including a few of the spectacular variety. SOU's back line of Connell, Jordan Bell, Madison Childers and Olivia Euverman came through to allow the Yotes to put only eight of their 22 shots on goal.

Santander's goal was her second of the season. Yslava's was her sixth and stopped SOU's shutout streak at five matches.

The Raiders are on the road next week, visiting Bushnell on Friday and Corban on Saturday.
