ASHLAND – Following a scoreless first half, the floodgates opened for Southern Oregon in the second of a 3-0 Cascade Conference win against Multnomah on Friday afternoon at Raider Stadium.
Senior forward
Sarah Mauk scored SOU's first two goals, her seventh and eighth of the season, and
Gabbie Johnson added the last as the Raiders (9-4-3 overall, 8-1-2) brought their team-record unbeaten streak to 10 games heading into the final day of the regular season.
They've won three in a row ahead of Saturday's 12 p.m. match against Warner Pacific and are now tied for second place in the standings with College of Idaho, guaranteed no worse than the No. 3 seed in the CCC Tournament. The Yotes went down Friday against Northwest (Wash.), which clinched the regular-season title with the win.
Multnomah (2-13-1, 1-9-1) only placed one shot on goal, but it wasn't until their 17th shot of the game that the Raiders finally got a result. In the 57th minute, Mauk chased down
Olivia Euverman's long pass in the box, and after her first strike was deflected by keeper Camilla Meneses Thomas she followed the ball for a successful second attempt.
Mauk scored again two minutes later on
Madison Childers' assist, taking a shot a few feet off the end line near the right corner with precision. In the 64th minute,
Sophia Connell's corner kick was redirected by
Jordan Bell to Johnson, who shot into an open net. Both Connell and Bell were credited with assists.
Johnson's goal was her third of the year. Mauk has now tallied six times in SOU's last six games.
Keeper
Ashlynn Hernandez was credited with the shutout. The Raiders have allowed just one goal during their 10-game streak.
