Raiders keep streaking with 2-0 win at Carroll

HELENA, Mont. – The Southern Oregon University women's soccer team extended its winning streak to three games and its unbeaten streak to five, getting it done on the road with a 2-0 defeat of Carroll (Mont.) on Friday afternoon at Nelson Stadium.

Senior forward Sarah Mauk assisted the first goal and scored the next as the Raiders (5-4-2 overall, 4-1-1 Cascade Conference) broke through early in the second half to win on the Saints' home field for the first time in team history.

Mauk crossed paths with Baylee Touey streaking across the box in the 57th minute. She passed ahead, and Touey gathered going to her right to take a centered shot that she placed inside the left post. Six minutes later, Sophia Connell sent a long pass from in front of SOU's bench toward the goal and Mauk beat keeper Sarah Conway to the ball, heading it in though traffic off one bounce.

Carroll, which was unbeaten in five home outings entering the afternoon, fell to 7-3-3 overall and 4-2-1 in the CCC.

The Raiders have shut out four consecutive opponents, a feat they've achieved three seasons in a row.

Jessie Selby preserved the latest clean sheet with four saves, but the Raiders comfortably outshot the Saints, 20-8, and had an 8-4 advantage in shots on goal.

Touey accounted for three of those, and the goal was her second of the season. Mauk is up to three goals and one assist. This was the fifth time in her career that she has recorded one of each in the same game.

The outcome set up a critical week ahead for the Raiders, who will return home to face No. 24-ranked Eastern Oregon and No. 22 College of Idaho on Oct. 14-15. Both matches start at noon.
