COMPLETE ALL-CCC AWARDS
ASHLAND – Southern Oregon's
Hailey Van Well made the All-Cascade Conference volleyball first team for the second time, and teammate
Sadie Byrd joined her as the awards list was released Thursday by the league office.
The Raiders (20-9 overall) were also represented by honorable mention recipients
Simone Gordon and
Mylena Testoni. The awards were announced 24 hours before the team takes the floor as the No. 3 seed at the CCC Championships presented by U.S. Bank in La Grande, where they'll meet No. 6 seed Lewis-Clark State (Idaho) for a first-round match at 9 a.m. Friday.
Van Well, a sophomore outside hitter from Dallas, Ore., was one of the circuit's most proficient attackers again in the follow up to her CCC Freshman of the Year campaign. She ranked eighth in the conference at 3.3 kills per set, posted at a .225 attacking average, and reached double figures in kills 17 times during the regular season.
Byrd had a breakout junior season to solidify SOU's presence at the net. The middle from Maple Valley, Wash., became the first Raider in 10 years to rank top-five in the conference in both blocks per set (1.2) and attacking average (.289). She added a record-breaking performance in a critical five-set win at Bushnell on Oct. 22, when she got in on 13 blocks – the most ever for a Raider in a single match – and had a career-high 14 kills.
Gordon garnered honorable mention for the second consecutive season. The junior right-side from Portland was solid all around with 2.0 kills per set, 0.6 blocks per set and a .211 attacking average.
Testoni was honored despite missing SOU's last 14 matches. Before going down in mid-September, the junior from Brazil was one of the top players in the conference with a line of 3.2 kills per set, 3.0 digs per set and a .263 attacking average – ranking among the CCC leaders in each category.
