Meyer's buzzer-beater forces OT, but Raiders fall at No. 6 WJU

ROCKLIN, Calif.Josh Meyer's miraculous buzzer-beater to force overtime went to waste as Southern Oregon fell 93-88 to No. 6-ranked William Jessup (Calif.) after one extra session on Saturday night at the Bill Holtz Warrior Classic.

Trailing 78-75 with a few seconds left in regulation, Meyer took an inbounds pass from midcourt and dribbled into to a 30-footer that banked in as the horn sounded. The Raiders never got over the hump in OT, though, and WJU shot 4-of-5 from the field and 7-of-8 at the line the rest of the way.

SOU guard Atmar Mundu scored a career-high 24 points, including 21 after halftime, and accounted for all three of the team's OT buckets. The rest of the Raiders went 0-of-6 in the period.

Leading 39-38 at halftime, the Raiders opened the second half on a 9-0 run and were up 73-69 after Dominic McGarvey knocked down a jumper inside with three minutes left.

Four turnovers in the remainder of regulation kept them from holding on. The second led to Corey Myles' breakaway dunk that tied the game at 73. The third, a Mundu travel, prompted an unsportsmanlike reaction from Duke Gipson, who was issued a technical foul that put Mundu at the free-throw line for the game-tying free throws.

WJU's Nigel McKay answered with a jumper that tied the score again with a minute left. Ty Artis' put-back with eight seconds remaining gave the Warriors the lead, 77-75, and they appeared to have the game in hand after McGarvey lost the ensuing inbounds pass. But a missed free throw and Meyer's heroics kept the Raiders alive.

McGarvey finished with 15 points and 10 rebounds, his first double-double as a Raider, and Meyer had 14 and eight. Will Graves totaled 10 points and eight boards and Brett Hollins shot 4-of-5 off the bench.

Cashemin Williams' 26 points led WJU. McKay was the catalyst of the comeback with 14 in the second half.

The teams will meet again at 7 p.m. Thursday inside Lithia Motors Pavilion in the first game of the Flagship Inn Classic.
