KLAMATH FALLS – Another lockdown defensive effort gave the Southern Oregon women's basketball team its third straight win to start the season, 75-57 against Menlo (Calif.) in the Lithia-Oregon Tech Classic on Saturday at Danny Miles Court.
Kalei Iwami and 
Kami Walk dropped in 15 points apiece, 
Brianna Phiakhamngon scored 13 in the first half, and 
Clara Robbins shot 5-of-6 for 11 points.
Tied with nine minutes left in the second quarter, SOU held the Oaks (1-2) to one basket the rest of the half and went into the break with a commanding 40-24 lead. It grew to as many as 20 points in the third and the Raiders were never seriously threatened the rest of the way.
The Oaks shot just 38 percent from the field. They scored 41 points combined in the first and third quarters, but just 16 in the second and fourth.
Through three outings, the Raiders are giving up just 50.3 points per game.
Walk finished with eight rebounds. Phiakhamngon had six and three steals, and Robbins pulled down four boards to go with three steals.
Emma Schmerbach was effective again off the bench, hitting all three of her field-goal attempts and scoring nine points. She shot 8-of-9 on the weekend.
Kiara Brown led Menlo with 14 points.
The Raiders will make a trip to Southern California next week, visiting Antelope Valley on Thursday and No. 2-ranked Westmont on Saturday.
