SPRINGFIELD – For the third consecutive postseason, Southern Oregon is among the last four Cascade Conference teams standing after looking the part of the No. 2 seed against Oregon Tech in the quarterfinal round of the CCC Championships presented by U.S. Bank.

The Raiders held on to eliminate the Owls, 2-1, in the teams' first-ever postseason matchup on Tuesday at Les Schwab Sports Park. Gabbie Johnson and Mia Santander provided the offense, and the defense was routinely impenetrable until surviving a scare in the final minute.

SOU improved to 11-4-3 overall and moved on to play No. 3 seed College of Idaho at 4 p.m. Wednesday in the semifinals. The Raiders are unbeaten in 12 consecutive games, but the Yotes were one of two teams to take a point from them during that stretch when they tied 1-1 on Oct. 15 in Ashland.

The Raiders will also get a shot to avenge last year's semifinal appearance – a 1-0 upset loss against C of I amid a soaked playing field. Turning the table would give them a spot in the championship match for the first time.

Johnson got them off on the right foot in the 21st minute, as Santander centered the ball from the sideline and gave her teammate a clear 10-yard shot that found the net. In the 34th minute, Santander put the Raiders up 2-0 by putting back a Sarah Mauk attempt that was saved but not corralled by OIT keeper Sydni Nakamura.

The Owls, who won last year's CCC Tournament, wrapped up their season at 6-5-5. They played from behind all day after fighting the Raiders to a scoreless draw on Sept. 23 in Klamath Falls.

Ashley Hart gave them life, however, by scoring on a breakaway in the 89th minute. With 24 seconds to go, Kiah Wetzell threatened inside the box but her attempt was blocked by the Raider back line.

SOU keeper Jessie Selby – who on Monday was named to the All-CCC first team for the second year in a row – shined with six saves. Malaika Quigley stepped onto the goal line for another.

The goals were the fourth of the season for both Johnson and Santander.
