ASHLAND – After pulling out a string of close games over the last two weeks, the Southern Oregon women's basketball team didn't mess around when it came to putting away Warner Pacific on Friday night at Lithia Motors Pavilion.
Using a lights-out, 33-7 run in the second half, SOU defeated the Knights 82-52 to keep its share of first place in the Cascade Conference. The Raiders started the rally when their lead was cut to 47-40 with 3:43 left in the third quarter and didn't relent until the final buzzer, winning their 12th consecutive home game.
Kami Walk logged 13 points and
Brianna Phiakhamngon had 10. But the Raider bench carried the load with 46 points, getting 11 from
Kalei Iwami, eight from
Clara Robbins and outscoring WPU's reserves by 25.
The Raiders improved to 23-4 overall and 16-3 in the CCC heading into Saturday's 3 p.m. Senior Day matchup with Multnomah. Meanwhile, Lewis-Clark State (Idaho) – which SOU will face next Friday – kept pace in first place with a three-point win at Bushnell.
SOU led WPU for the final 37 minutes and was up 11 by halftime, but the Knights (12-12, 10-9) hung around behind Courtney Jackson's 13 points.
Their lead down to seven, the Raiders got back-to-back fast-break buckets from Walk (including a three-point play), a 3-pointer from
Mallory Heard and four straight free throws from
Danasia Allison to end the third quarter. Their lead had suddenly ballooned to 21 after Iwami opened the fourth with her second triple.
The contributions spanned up and down the roster with 12 Raiders hitting the scoring column. Heard had six points and four steals;
Dominique Harding added eight points and three assists;
Izzy Hernandez scored six; Allison dished out four assists;
Mia Wilmot added five points and seven rebounds.
The Raiders collectively shot 48 percent from the field. Of their 28 buckets, a season-high 23 of them were assisted.
