Ashton Cathey hit her first home run and
Riley Donovan had a pair of extra-base hits as No. 5-ranked Southern Oregon won a 14-8 slugfest against Marymount (Calif.) on Thursday night at Biola Softball Field.
Cathey, a junior transfer from Chattaroy, Wash., launched a three-run shot while the Raiders (7-2) put up a five-spot in the seventh inning to open up an eight-run lead.
Donovan continued to torment opposing pitchers, going 3-for-4 with a triple, a double, a walk, three RBIs and two runs scored. The senior catcher has recorded eight extra-base hits through nine games. She started the scoring during the Raiders' three-run first inning with an RBI single and followed up in the second with an RBI double.
Deja Acosta sparked SOU from the top of the lineup with three hits, four runs scored and an RBI.
Trinity Santoyo logged two hits and was on base three times, scoring two runs and driving in another.
The Raiders tagged Marymount pitcher Liana Castro for 12 hits during her complete game. Twelve of the runs she surrendered were of the earned variety.
The Mariners, members of the California Pacific Conference, dropped to 1-6.
Freshman pitcher
Mayze Menefee picked up the decision for SOU. She got through six innings and improved to 3-0 despite giving up seven hits and issuing four walks.
The Raiders' road trip continues Friday at 17th-ranked Hope International (Calif.), which the Raiders defeated in the NAIA Opening Round to advance to the World Series in both 2019 and 2021. Their doubleheader begins at 11 a.m.
