ASHLAND – Southern Oregon men's basketball player
Tez Allen and softball player
Ashton Cathey were voted Cascade Conference WVT Laboratory Players of the Week on Monday, the CCC office announced.
Allen pushed the Raiders into Tuesday's title game of the CCC Championships presented by U.S. Bank with back-to-back clutch performances on the road last week. In Tuesday's 67-65 quarterfinal win at Corban he scored on four straight possessions over the final three minutes, finishing with 18 points, six rebounds and three steals. He recorded 15 points and nine rebounds in Saturday's 67-66 semifinal triumph at Lewis-Clark State (Idaho) and delivered a signature postseason moment, banking in a 3-pointer that dropped through with six-tenths of a second left for the win.
Allen and the fifth-seeded Raiders (18-14) will play the final at top-seeded at No. 9-ranked College of Idaho (28-4), tipping off Tuesday at 6 p.m. Pacific Time. The redshirt-junior enters the contest with averages of 10.8 points, 7.2 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 1.6 steals. He is the only player in the conference to rank top-seven in each of the latter three categories.
Cathey, a junior infielder from Chattaroy, Wash., showed off her power as the Raider softball team won three of four against British Columbia. She went 7-for-11 with three home runs, nine RBIs and a walk over her three starts, and enjoyed a two-homer game in the finale. She's hit five home runs, all in her last six outings, to lead all CCC players.
Cathey and the Raiders (13-4) will host a three-game non-conference series this week against Arizona Christian, playing a single game at 3 p.m. Friday and a doubleheader at noon Saturday.
