EUGENE – Southern Oregon's
K'wan Carter came up with a clutch basket for the second night in a row Saturday at Bushnell. This time, it translated to a win.
Atmar Mundu dished to Carter for the go-ahead bucket at the rim with 2.7 seconds left, pushing the Raiders past the Beacons 70-68 at the Morse Center and allowing them to keep their hold on third place in Cascade Conference standings.
Mundu scored a game-high 19 points on 8-of-14 shooting. Carter had 15 less than 24 hours after going for a season-high 21 and giving the Raiders (14-11, 11-6 CCC) the lead with 28 seconds left at Corban. Corban went on to tie that game and defeat the Raiders in overtime, but the Beacons (8-17, 6-12) had no such luck: after Carter's layup, they were unable to get up a counter-shot with the remaining seconds.
Bushnell led by as many as 10 points and was up 59-53 after Stevie Schlabach's make with 7:34 left. SOU then used a 9-0 to take the lead, and the Beacons didn't erase the deficit until Keishon Dawkins scored with 12 seconds left.
Tez Allen scored nine of his 12 points in the second half and added nine rebounds.
Josh Meyer went for 12 points, 11 rebounds, three steals and three assists – marking his third straight double-double and ninth of the season – while
Joe Juhala and
Jake Virga scored six apiece off the bench.
Schlabach's 18 points led the Beacons, who'd defeated the Raiders 76-71 on Dec. 17 in Ashland.
SOU plays on the road again Tuesday at Oregon Tech, which will enter the contest tied for first place with College of Idaho.
