CALDWELL, Idaho –
Katie Machado and
Cayla Williams threw back-to-back five-inning shutouts as No. 6 Southern Oregon rolled to two Cascade Conference wins against Providence (Mont.) on Saturday, 9-0 and 11-0 at Symms Field.
In clinching the series, the Raiders improved to 17-5 overall and 4-1 in the CCC. Machado took her record to 7-2 in a five-hitter, striking out seven and walking one in Game 1. Williams went to 5-0 with a four-hitter in Game 2 and helped her case at the plate by going 2-for-2 with a three-run double and five RBIs.
Riley Donovan jacked a three-run home run – her sixth of the season and third in four games – in the fourth inning of the opener.
Ashton Cathey,
Rylan Austin and
Sammie Pemberton had two hits, a double and an RBI apiece, combining for five runs scored.
Deja Acosta sparked the Raiders in Game 2 with a triple, two walks, three runs scored and an RBI. Donovan had a two-run single and walked twice, and
Sarah Kerling went for two RBIs.
Lindsey Stripling stroked two hits in both games.
Providence – which was originally scheduled to host the games in Great Falls but had an unplayable field – dipped to 0-10 overall and 0-8 in the CCC.
The teams will play two more on Sunday, a CCC game at 10 a.m. Pacific Time followed by a non-conference counter at noon.
