Raiders stumble at Hope International, 2-1

IRVINE, Calif. – The clock ran out on Southern Oregon's late charge Monday afternoon in a 2-1 loss to Hope International (Calif.) at Orange County Great Park.

Senior forward Sarah Mauk connected for her first goal of the season and the 15th in her career, but by the time she struck in the 82nd minute the Raiders had already fallen into a two-goal hole. It was the last shot they'd muster, and they faced a 15-7 deficit in attempts for the game.

HIU's Sarah Ralston broke a scoreless tie in the 57th minute and Olga Luna tacked on in the 81st, both getting clean looks from point-blank range. Keyla Fragoso and Ryley Candelario were credited with assists.

Mia Santander found Mauk with a clear path to the box, and she brought it in for a 10-yard strike that crossed keeper Haley Slouka from right to left.

Slouka finished with three saves, and SOU's Jessie Selby had four.

The Royals were playing their first game of the season. The Raiders went 1-2 on their trip.

They'll be off until hosting Menlo (Calif.) on Sept. 3 at Raider Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
