LEWISTON, Idaho –
Atmar Mundu and
Josh Meyer made sure Southern Oregon had all the offense it needed to complete a Cascade Conference weekend road sweep Saturday night against Lewis-Clark State (Idaho).
Mundu scored 30, Meyer went for 23, and the seniors combined for 36 points on 9-of-10 shooting in the second half to lock up SOU's 85-81 win. Their outbursts brought the Raiders (11-6 overall) to the halfway point of their Cascade Conference schedule with a 7-4 record, leaving them two games back of second place with five in a row at home coming up.
Mundu's offensive excellence has become commonplace: The 6-foot guard has scored in double figures in all 16 of his appearances this season and shot to No. 2 on the CCC's points leaderboard at 18.5 per game. He stuck the Warriors (7-10, 4-7) with his second career 30-point effort, getting there this time on 8-of-12 shooting. He hit 11-of-12 at the free-throw line and knocked down six in a row in the final minute.
Meyer's point total, achieved on 8-of-10 shooting, marked a season-high. The two-time All-CCC forward has gotten comfortable as a distributor of late, becoming the conference's sixth-leading assist man, but got hot with a career-high five 3-point makes against LCSC. He connected on all three of his attempts beyond the arc in the second half, keying a 13-2 surge that put the Raiders up 10 with 14 minutes left.
The Warriors eventually came back to take a 58-57 lead at the nine-minute mark before buckets from Mundu and
Will Graves opened a 9-0 run. With five minutes remaining, Mundu's four-point play made it 74-62.
Senior guard
Tez Allen matched a career-high with 11 assists. His free throw with five seconds remaining gave the Raiders a two-possession lead.
Allen's efforts also helped the Raiders to 50-percent shooting. He added eight points and
Dominic McGarvey had seven with six rebounds.
Erick Chaney scored 17 off the bench for LCSC, hitting four 3-pointers.
The Raiders return to Lithia Motors Pavilion next week for a pivotal homestand. They'll place second-place Eastern Oregon on Friday and No. 1-ranked College of Idaho on Saturday.
