Raiders hang on against Knights for 3rd straight win

ASHLAND – The No. 25-ranked Southern Oregon women's basketball team took last-place Warner Pacific's best shot and escaped with its third straight tight home victory, 59-53 on Friday night at Lithia Motors Pavilion.

Junior forward Kami Walk notched fourth double-double in Cascade Conference play with 13 points, 11 rebounds and three assists. She and sophomore post Clara Robbins – who totaled nine points, seven rebounds and four blocked shots – helped the Raiders dominate the paint, accounting for 11 of the 20 offensive rebounds that they turned into 19 second-chance points.

The Knights never led over the final 32 minutes but kept close all game, and with 1:09 remaining got their deficit down to two points with an Alexa Mee bucket that made the score 55-53. After forcing a turnover with 25 seconds left, they had a chance to tie or take the lead until SOU's Danasia Allison cut their possession off with a steal.

Kalei Iwami, who finished with 11 points, made four consecutive free throws after that to shut the door.

The Raiders remained a game up on Bushnell in third place, improving to 16-5 overall and 12-3 in the CCC. They've survived on the strength of their defense during the current winning streak, shooting under 36 percent from the field in all three games.

Izzy Hernandez sparked them off the bench with eight first-half points, shooting 2-of-3 from 3. Brianna Phiakhamngon hit three triples and finished with 11 points and four offensive boards. Allison went for five points, seven rebounds and three steals.

The Knights, led by Emily Brown's 14 points and six rebounds, dropped to 1-19 and 1-14.

SOU finishes its homestand at 3 p.m. Saturday against Multnomah.
