SOU runs win streak to 4 at Providence

GREAT FALLS, Mont. – Junior forward Evan Norconk delivered again as the Southern Oregon men's soccer team started a pivotal Cascade Conference road trip with a 1-0 win over Providence (Mont.) on Friday afternoon at Argo Field.

Norconk's eighth goal of the season and third in as many games was the difference, but SOU's back line was the story, limiting the Argos to four total shot attempts. None of them were on target.

The result kept the Raiders (11-2-0 overall, 7-1-0 CCC) atop the table pending the result of 6-1-1 College of Idaho's game Friday against Eastern Oregon. Regardless of that outcome, they'll own the circuit's best winning percentage with a game in hand.

They went ahead in the 17th minute, moments after Adrian Villegas lined up for a corner kick. His strike was met in front of the goal by the head of Sky Charley-Bolyard, who got the ball out of traffic on a bounce to Norconk for a high-velocity dart that flew directly into the net.

Villegas earned an assist on the play – his CCC-leading eighth to go along with nine goals – as did Charley-Bolyard. Norconk tallied for the fifth time in CCC play, a total that ranks fourth on the conference leaderboard.

The Raiders had only three other shots on goal and were held without one for the final 42 minutes. Their seventh shutout of the season made that point moot.

They play Saturday on the home field of Carroll (Mont.), another opponent that has positioned itself in title contention. The Saints went to 6-1-2 in CCC play Friday with a 2-2 tie against Oregon Tech.
