EUGENE – A momentary lapse was the difference as College of Idaho took a 1-0 decision from No. 20-ranked Southern Oregon in Friday afternoon's final round of the Cascade Conference Championships presented by U.S. Bank at Civic Park.

Eric Hornung scored the lone goal in the 15th minute. The Yotes (12-3-4 overall), seeded No. 3 in the tournament, had been the only team to shut out top-seeded SOU (18-3) during the regular season and repeated the feat thanks to Tom Baynard-Smith's six saves.

The Raiders' team-record winning streak ended at 11 games. They were appearing in the final for the first time since 2018 but went on the ropes early when Dani Alejos gathered a short throw-in from the left side and lofted it across the box. It bounced softly past one Raiders defender who was sealed off and another who was beat to the ball by Hornung, who knocked it home just a couple feet in front of SOU keeper Casey Ruvolo.

The tournament title is the Yotes' first in 20 years. They dodged a couple bullets with the clock winding down as Alan Gaytan's shot from the left side bounced just wide of the right post and headed a throw-in that required Baynard-Smith to make a leaping stop.

The Raiders put 12 shots on goal in two matchups against C of I without a result. The Yotes had four on Friday, and only one in the second half as they went entered prevent-mode.

Both teams had already clinched spots in the NAIA National Tournament – the Raiders by winning the regular season title, and C of I by reaching the final. The 40-team field will be announced 11 a.m. Monday by the NAIA office.
