ASHLAND – No. 22-ranked Southern Oregon will take the longest winning streak in program history, now at nine games, into the postseason after wrapping up its Cascade Conference title run with 7-1 victory over Bushnell on Thursday at Raider Stadium.
The Raiders (16-2 overall, 12-1 CCC) sat a handful of starters in their regular-season finale after clinching the championship days earlier, but Bushnell's go-ahead goal 22 seconds into the second half jolted them to life. They ended the game with seven unanswered, five of which they scored in a 16-minute span.
Sky Charley-Bolyard,
Alex Hjulmand and
David Moore tallied two goals apiece, and
Rory McKee accounted for the other. Hjulmand,
Alan Gaytan and
Kevin Nevinger had two assists apiece.
The scoring spree began when Charley-Bolyard headed in Hjulmand's header in the 49th minute, and four minutes later McKee headed in a free kick taken 40 yards out by
Daniel Palomino. Thirty-two seconds later, Hjulmand's first score made it 3-1.
In total, the Raiders headed in five of their seven goals. Both of Moore's were delivered in that fashion, the first set up by Nevinger and the second by
Jack Fecteau.
McKee, a freshman, and Moore, a sophomore, recorded the first goals of their careers. Charley-Bolyard and Hjulmand both ran their season totals to six, while Gaytan got his seventh and eighth assists.
The Raiders will put their streak on the line in the CCC Championships presented by U.S. Bank, starting with Monday's 11 a.m. quarterfinal match against No. 8 seed Corban. They outscored their opponents 41-6 combined in CCC regular-season play, including a 5-1 win against Corban on Sept. 22 in Ashland.
The Beacons, who got their goal from Cole Sindt, wrapped up at 6-9-3 overall and 2-9-2 in the conference.
