ASHLAND – The Southern Oregon women's soccer team claimed the No. 7 seed in the Cascade Conference Championships presented by U.S. Bank by keeping Bushnell in eighth place with a 2-0 victory in the regular-season finale Thursday night at Raider Stadium.
Freshman
Iniana Hammond put the Raiders (8-6-4 overall, 5-3-4 CCC) in control in the 12th minute with the first score, and junior
Emily Hyde added on in the 68th for their first multi-goal performance at home this season.
In Monday's 5 p.m. CCC Championships quarterfinal round, they'll face No. 2 seed Carroll (Mont.), a team they tied on the road less than three weeks ago. As the No. 8 seed, the Beacons (5-7-3, 4-5-3) drew College of Idaho, which got through the regular season with a perfect 12-0 record.
Bushnell had little going against an SOU defense anchored by senior
Sophia Connell.
Ashlynn Hernandez routinely corralled the Beacons' only shot on goal.
Hammond's fourth goal of the season, and second in as many games, was set up by freshman
Abby McKean after she won a ball near the right sideline and sent it to the box. There, Hammond's strike dipped just under the crossbar untouched.
Hyde got an assist from
Malaika Quigley, whose long pass from beyond midfield found Hyde in stride as she streaked in for a 15-yard strike.
Hyde's goal was her second. Quigley finished the regular season as SOU's points leader at 16, with Hammond just five behind.
