Jessup edges SOU again, 77-74

ASHLAND – Jessup (Calif.) guards Ty Artis and Myles Corey combined for 39 points and delivered late as the Warriors escaped Lithia Motors Pavilion with a 77-74 win over Southern Oregon on Saturday afternoon.

The Raiders (4-4 overall) trailed by as many as 12 points in the second half, but a 10-0 run capped by a pair of Teron Bradford free throws gave them a 73-72 edge with 1:38 left to play. Artis – who finished with game-highs of 23 points, seven rebounds and seven assists – answered by getting to the basket for a three-point play. After SOU's Elijah Jackson split a pair of free throws, Corey drove the lane for a dunk in traffic to push the lead to three with 38 seconds left.

Jackson had a well-contested attempt from 3 go wide at the buzzer, ending the Raiders' winning streak at three games.

Of the teams' last six matchups, four have been decided by three or fewer points and the other two by six or fewer. The Warriors (7-4) also held on for a 61-58 win Nov. 4 in Rocklin when SOU's 3-pointer for the tie was ruled to have been released a fraction of a second after the buzzer sounded.

Corey scored 16 in the final scheduled meeting between the teams before Jessup leaves the NAIA for the NCAA Division II level next season. He hit three of his four 3-pointers in the second, helping push the Warriors lead to 66-54 at the midway point of the half.

Khalil Chatman, the reigning Cascade Conference Player of the Week, led the Raiders with 18 points on 7-of-11 shooting, seven rebounds, three assists and two steals. Bradford scored 13, while Cole McAninch and Dominic McGarvey had 12 apiece; the trio combined for 26 in the second half

Mason Whittaker contributed nine points and three assists for the Raiders, who were hindered by 7-of-26 accuracy beyond the arc.

The game was their last of the nonconference variety. They'll work on their 2-0 CCC record next weekend in Washington, visiting Evergreen on Friday and Northwest on Saturday.
