No. 10 Warriors deny Raiders' upset bid

ASHLAND – The Southern Oregon women's basketball team made a run at No. 10 Lewis-Clark State (Idaho) for the second time this season, but the first-place Warriors prevailed again in a 77-67 Cascade Conference decision Friday evening at Lithia Motors Pavilion.

Callie Stevens caught fire in the second half to finish with 19 points and Maddie Holm logged 17 points, 14 boards and three steals for LCSC (23-2 overall, 18-1 CCC), which remained tied with Eastern Oregon for first place in the standings.

The Raiders (19-6, 15-4) – who jumped out to an 18-4 lead in their first matchup with the Warriors – went up 10 in the first quarter this time around. They trailed 55-52 entering the fourth, where they went the first four-plus minutes without a point and fell behind by 11 at the 4:48 mark.

Brianna Phiakhamngon led a rally to the finish line that LCSC guard Hannah Broyles cut short with back-to-back 3-pointers after the Raiders cut the deficit to three and then four points.

Stevens, the reigning CCC Player of the Year, scored 13 after halftime and added five assists and three steals. Ellie Sander chipped in 11 points, seven rebounds and three steals for the Warriors, who got loose in transition for a 21-9 advantage in fast-break points.

They shot 51 percent from the field, the second-best mark for a Raider opponent this season.

Phiakhamngon scored 23 points, her highest total since December, on 9-of-19 shooting from the field and 5-of-11 from 3. Kami Walk had 16 points, Clara Robbins pulled down 11 rebounds, and Danasia Allison chipped in seven points, five assists, four rebounds and two steals.

The Raiders remain in third place with three regular-season contests remaining, a game up on fourth-place Oregon Tech. They'll play their final regular-season home game at 7 p.m. Saturday against Walla Walla (Wash.).
