Raiders complete series shutout of Warriors

ASHLAND – Southern Oregon blanked Corban twice more on Friday at University Field, completing a four-game series shutout of a Cascade Conference opponent for the second time in team history.

The No. 5-ranked Raiders won the third and final CCC counter against the Warriors, 7-0, and followed up with a 13-0, five-inning victory in the non-conference finale to run their record to 24-6 overall and 13-3 in the circuit. Over two days, they outscored the Warriors 45-0 and out-hit them 51-9.

Cayla Williams struck out six and walked three during her three-hit shutout in Game 1. Katie Machado's no-hit bid was broken up by a bunt single with one out left to get in Game 2, but that was all she yielded while striking out eight and issuing one base on balls.

Led by Lindsey Stripling's four-hit day, the SOU lineup continued to roll.

In Game 1, Stripling, Williams, Deja Acosta and Faith Moultrie tallied two hits apiece. Riley Donovan drove in runs in the first and second innings. Williams' RBI double in the second gave the Raiders a 4-0 lead, and Sammie Pemberton's RBI double in the fifth put them up 6-0.

In Game 2, SOU clung to a one-run lead until putting up a 12-spot in the fifth with the help of four Corban errors. Hannah Clavelle hit a home run during the rally, her third of the season, and later capped the frame with a run-scoring single. Sarah Kerling gapped an RBI double after tripling earlier in the contest.

In the series, Acosta went 7-for-12 with seven runs scored, four RBIs and four stolen bases. Moultrie was 6-for-8 with six runs and six steals. Neither was caught on any of their 10 combined stolen-base attempts.

The Warriors (7-25, 5-15) have lost 16 consecutive games against SOU dating back to 2019.

Williams, who improved to 11-3, gave up five hits over her 12 scoreless innings in the series. Machado, who upped her record to 11-2, surrendered four hits with 16 strikeouts and one walk over her 10 scoreless frames. She's pitched five shutouts in her last six starts.

The Raiders are home again next Friday and Saturday to host No. 12-ranked and second-place College of Idaho (31-3, 16-3). The teams will enter the series tied in the loss column.
