SOU scores 2 comeback wins against Northwest

ASHLAND – Northwest (Wash.) gave No. 4 Southern Oregon a scare in back-to-back games, but the Raiders stormed back twice to win 7-4 and 10-7 in Cascade Conference play Friday at University Field.

The Raiders (37-9 overall, 23-5 CCC) – who entered the weekend needing to win all four of their remaining conference games to earn the No. 2 seed in next week's CCC Tournament – fell behind 4-0 in Game 1 and 3-0 in Game 2.

Their first rally materialized as a six-run fifth inning. It started with consecutive walks and Lindsey Stripling's two-run double, and extended courtesy of a pair of dropped fly balls that led to four unearned runs.

SOU came back with a five-run third inning in Game 2. Deja Acosta was the catalyst with a one-out triple, scoring on Kailer Fulton's squeez bunt, and Jordan Henderson came through with a game-tying line drive that plated two runs. Two more Eagles errors, of their six on the day, enabled the Raiders to push across the go-ahead runs.

Fulton and Riley Donovan both hit sacrifice flies in the fourth, and Acosta and Fulton drove in runs in the fifth to give the Raiders a 10-3 lead.

Fulton went 4-for-5 with three RBIs on the day, while Acosta scored three runs and drove in two. Henderson and Sarah Kerling added three runs scored apiece.

SOU pitcher Holly Fletcher earned both decisions in relief. She didn't allow a baserunner while closing out the final 2 1/3 innings of the opener and got the Raiders through 4 1/3 in Game 2, her only blemishes coming in Northwest's four-run seventh.

The Eagles (21-26, 12-17) need a Game 1 win on Saturday and a Carroll (Mont.) loss against Bushnell to get their first-ever CCC Tournament berth.

Saturday's doubleheader starts at 11 a.m.
