CHULA VISTA, Calif. – The Southern Oregon University beach volleyball team will be the No. 6 seed in Friday's bracket play of the NAIA West Group Qualifying Tournament after going 0-2 in pool play Thursday at the Elite Athlete Training Center.

The Raiders lost 5-0 to both No. 3-ranked Westcliff (Calif.) and No. 7 Saint Katherine (Calif.), which were the top two teams out of the California Pacific Conference in the seven-team tournament.

Westcliff (13-3 overall), a national semifinalist last season, didn't drop a set against the Raiders (3-11). SOU stole two sets and nearly more against Saint Katherine (9-5), as No. 2 pair Taylor Jackson and Karina Oliveira and No. 4 pair Kiya Jackson and Kayla Neidigh both forced tiebreakers. Jackson and Oliveira narrowly dropped theirs, 15-13, and had pushed their opponents to extra points in the first set.

"We played some of our best volleyball of the year," SOU coach Paul Elliott said. "All pairs played with intensity and fire. What a great opportunity for the; we know what it will take to be a national contender."

SOU will get a rematch with No. 3 seed Saint Katherine in the quarterfinals at 11 a.m. Friday. The winner will play either Westcliff or Benedictine Mesa (Ariz.) at 3 p.m.

Top-ranked Corban will be the No. 1 seed after going 2-0 in pool play along with Saint Katherine and Westcliff.
