Villegas comes through again as Raiders beat Multnomah

PORTLAND – Multnomah couldn't stop Adrian Villegas' hot start or break up Southern Oregon's perfect Cascade Conference-opening weekend Saturday at Williford Field.

A day after assisting both goals as SOU knocked off defending CCC champion Warner Pacific, Villegas came through in the 65th minute for the lone goal in the Raiders' 1-0 win over the Lions. Through seven games, the senior attacking midfielder is up to four goals and three assists.

The six-point road trip made the Raiders 6-1 overall entering their first home games next Friday and Saturday against Corban and Bushnell.

They had nothing going against the Lions (2-4, 0-2 CCC), stymied by Pablo Mendoza's seven saves, until Villegas' turn. Alex Hjulmand got the assist, winning a 50-50 through-ball from Mendoza and sending it back to Villegas outside the box. He shot from there and slotted it into the bottom corner.

The assist was Hjulmand's second of the year.

Sophomore goalkeeper Casey Ruvolo was also sharp again with six saves for his fourth shutout of the season. He collected 14 on the weekend across back-to-back shutouts.

The Raiders remained perfect in eight all-time matchups with the Lions. They've outscored them 25-2 in those games.
