LA GRANDE –
Alan Gaytan became the founding member of Southern Oregon's 30-goal club as the Raiders bounced back with a 3-0 win against Eastern Oregon on Saturday evening at Community Stadium.
Gaytan, a senior forward from Troutdale, assisted
Adrian Villegas to break the ice in the 29th minute and punched in one of his own in the 46th. The Raiders went to 8-2 overall and 4-1 in the Cascade Conference, responding convincingly to their first shutout defeat Friday at College of Idaho.
Villegas' goal was his team-leading sixth of the season and the 26th of his career. He stands at No. 2 on SOU's all-time list behind only Gaytan, who got an assist from
Tybalt Thornberry to reach the milestone with his third goal of 2023.
Mustafa Daggig, a freshman from Portland, chimed in with his first career goal to increase SOU's cushion in the 56th minute.
Evan Norconk had the assist.
The Raiders improved to 8-0 in regular season play all-time against EOU (2-5-3, 2-3-1). They've shut the Mountaineers out in each of those games. SOU goalkeeper
Casey Ruvolo needed to make only one save the protect the latest clean sheet.
The Raiders are back home next week to face Walla Walla (Wash.) on Friday and Rocky Mountain (Mont.) on Sunday. Both matches start at noon.
