HAVRE, Mont. – The No. 15-ranked Southern Oregon men's wrestling team dominated another Cascade Conference opponent, No. 20 MSU-Northern, in a 25-10 dual win Friday at Armory Gymnasium that brought the Raiders' record to 11-3.
SOU won the first five matches to take a commanding lead and outscored the Lights 83-44 combined to stop a four-dual skid in the series, clinching the victory seven matches into the night.
Alex Hernandez, ranked No. 6 at 174 pounds, had the most lopsided win of the night with a 19-4 technical fall over Cade Gubler to improve to 13-1 in dual matches.
Vonn Fenn's 9-4 decision over Kolten Powers at 125 pounds followed by back-to-back major decisions for No. 10
Simon Graeber (133) and No. 1
Evan Potter (141) got the Raiders started. Potter's win was his 28th in a row in dual action.
Jonathan Hernandez (149) and No. 10
Aaron Gandara (157) were next with decisions that made the score 17-0 before the Lights got their first win. Hernandez and No. 16
Andrew Herrera (197) – who took a 7-6 decision from No. 21 Carl Hansen in the only top-25 matchup of the dual – accounted for SOU's final points.
No. 17 Devin Crawford (165), No. 7 Austin Vanek (184) and Shane Mattson (285) were the lone contributors to MSU-Northern's total.
The Raiders are 7-1 against CCC foes this season. They'll face another Saturday in No. 6 Providence (Mont.), attempting to collect their sixth upset and match their highest win total in the last nine years.
