ASHLAND – The No. 5-ranked Southern Oregon volleyball team returned to the top of the Cascade Conference standings with a 25-20, 25-18, 25-15 sweep of Lewis-Clark State (Idaho) at Lithia Motors Pavilion and some help elsewhere in the circuit on Friday night.
Megan Perry poured in 11 kills with three blocks and
Marin Mackey racked up eight kills and 18 digs to lead the Raiders, who bumped their record to 19-2 overall and 13-2 in the CCC. With seven regular-season matches remaining they, Corban and Eastern Oregon are level with two losses apiece after EOU's straight-set win over Corban in La Grande.
SOU trailed the Warriors (11-9, 8-7) 16-14 in the first set but didn't have any trouble the rest of the way, ending that frame with an 11-4 surge. The Raiders attacked at an efficient .280 clip, had a 7-5 advantage in blocks and were flawless in service-reception to defeat LCSC for the second time this season.
Hannah Stadstad dropped in nine kills on 17 attacks, while
Mylena Testoni chipped in eight to go with eight digs and a pair of service aces.
Linda Conceicao accumulated a match-high four blocks and
Sadie Byrd had three.
The Raiders were never behind after the first points of the second and third sets. They limited the CCC's second-leading attacker, Juliauna Forgach Aguilar, to a .083 attack on 36 swings. Setters
Annie Hite (20 assists) and
Vitoria Mattos (15 assists, 9 digs) were stellar, and libero
Kayla Neidigh provided eight digs and five assists.
The Raiders improved to 9-1 at home. The last four of those victories have been over in three sets.
They're home again at 8 p.m. Saturday to face Walla Walla (Wash.).
