SOU, Northwest tie in Kirkland

KIRKLAND, Wash. – Southern Oregon's Cora Thorndike broke a scoreless tie in the 56th minute before Northwest (Wash.) equalized in the 80th of a 1-1 draw on Friday afternoon at NU Athletic Field.

Thorndike, a senior from Boulder, Colo., notched her fourth goal of the season thanks to Abby McKean's creation on a breakaway. Eagles keeper Katie Snow charged at McKean and forced the ball to come loose, but Thorndike was in the right place at the right time for a left-footed strike into an empty net.

With 10 minutes remaining, before SOU keeper Ashlynn Hernandez could clear a ball out of the box, pressure from Jordan Cagle gave the Eagles possession and set up an uncontested strike for Kaelynn Teagle.

Hernandez performed well aside from the hiccup with seven saves, helping the Raiders stay in the game with only three shots on goal.

The result put the Raiders at 7-6-2 overall and 4-5-2 in the Cascade Conference entering their final game of the regular season, 12:30 p.m. Saturday at 11th-place Evergreen (Wash.). They're clinging to the eighth and final CCC Tournament spot – three points ahead of Multnomah, which has two games remaining. They need to finish a point ahead of the Lions to take the No. 8 seed, but a win on Saturday and anything less than two Lions wins would give them the No. 7 seed.

Northwest, which stands in sixth place, went to 5-2-5 overall and 4-2-5 in the CCC.
