HELENA, Mont. –
Bryce Dyer amassed 14 points, 11 rebounds and five assists as the streaking Southern Oregon men's basketball banked its highest-quality win yet, 92-74 at Carroll (Mont.) to cap the Delta Marriott Classic on Saturday night.
Dyer, a sophomore forward from Medford, dominated a second half in which the Raiders (4-0 overall) outscored the Saints 58-40. He totaled 10 points on 5-of-6 shooting, seven boards and four assists during the period, and in the end was joined by four more Raiders in double figures:
Liam Clark (13 points, 4 rebounds),
Elijah Jackson (12 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists),
Joe Juhala (11 points, 4 rebounds) and
Gio Evanson (10 points, 4 assists).
The Raiders shot 62% from the field and 9-of-15 from 3-point range after halftime. Trailing 38-37, they launched a 14-2 run that started with a Dyer tip-in and was fueled by two Juhala triples.
The lead was down to six points with 7:30 to go when Dyer responded with three straight buckets, the last one a dunk. The run would extend to 11-0. Juhala finished it with another 3-pointer.
Evanson had all 10 of his points and all four of his assists in the second half. SOU also controlled most of the first, building an eight-point edge that was gone by the break.
Thanks to 15 offensive rebounds and 16 forced turnovers, the Raiders overcame Carroll's 57% shooting. Derek Kramer led the Saints with 22 points on 9-of-10 shooting, but he went 4-of-11 at the free-throw line.
The Saints were only a week removed from an upset of No. 16 Oregon Tech. Two days later after that outcome, they played No. 6 Arizona Christian to a five-point game.
The Raiders are off to a 4-0 start for the first time since 1987. They play an exhibition Monday at Idaho State, and they face Arizona Christian next Friday in Klamath Falls.
