ASHLAND Emma Schmerbach was voted the Cascade Conference Women's Basketball Defensive Player of the Week on Monday for her part in Southern Oregon's comeback win at Oregon Tech.

Schmerbach, a senior wing from Medford, put up 13 points, seven rebounds, three assists, three blocked shots and a steal as the No. 4-Raiders battled from 16 points behind to steal a 65-58 victory on Saturday at Danny Miles Court.

She scored seven in the fourth quarter, which SOU closed with 11 unanswered points. During the run, she stole an inbounds pass at halfcourt and took it in for a layup that put the Raiders up four points with 1:33 remaining.

Of greater importance than her block and steal totals, she hounded point guard Gabbie Gascon, OIT's leading scorer. With Schmerbach acting as primary defender for most of the night, Gascon shot just 2-of-12 from the field overall and didn't score a point in the second half.

The win made the Raiders 9-0 overall and 3-0 in the CCC.

Offensively, Schmerbach stands as SOU's second-leading scorer at 13.2 points per game. She has already scored in double figures seven times after doing so four times all of last year.
