Southern Oregon falters down the stretch against Lions

PORTLAND – Second-half shooting woes plagued the Southern Oregon men's basketball team in a 76-68 Cascade Conference loss to Multnomah on Saturday night at Jim Skagen Court.

Taylor Pomeroy set the tone by scoring 15 of his 18 points in the first half for the Lions (9-13 overall, 4-12 CCC), who defeated SOU (12-9, 10-5) on their home court for the second year in a row to salvage a regular-season series split. They led for the final 15 minutes.

Senior forward Dominic McGarvey matched a season-high with 19 points on 9-of-14 shooting for the Raiders, but his teammates combined to connect on a 35-percent clip, and in the second half went 2-of-14 from 3-point range.

In a three-point game with under two minutes left, Miles Macadory converted a three-point play to put the Lions up 74-68. Moments later, Tyrese Taylor came up with a steal and got loose in transition for a dunk.

Macadory finished with 12 points and Javier Turner had 11 for Multnomah.

Elijah Jackson knocked down 4-of-8 3-point attempts off the bench for the Raiders to amass 12 points. He went 8-of-12 from downtown on the weekend.

Standing in fifth place, the Raiders visit No. 23-ranked and third place Oregon Tech at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday before returning home to face Northwest (Wash.) on Friday and Evergreen (Wash.) on Saturday.
