Raiders run-rule WPU twice in CCC openers

HAPPY VALLEY – Southern Oregon out-hit Warner Pacific 25-4 while sweeping its Cascade Conference openers, 11-2 and 12-2 in five innings each, on Saturday afternoon at Hood View Park.

The No. 2-ranked Raiders (11-4 overall) kept the Knights (0-8) winless on the season, getting four hits each from Jordan Henderson, Faith Moultrie and Haley Sevan. Henderson doubled twice, scored four runs and had three RBIs, Molutrie doubled and triples with three runs, and Seva had a double with a team-high five RBIs on the day.

SOU tallied 16 hits in Game 1, where Katie Machado totaled a season-high 11 strikeouts in just four innings of work. Between her and reliever Taylor Klasen, the Raiders recorded 13 of their 15 defensive outs on strikeouts.

Junior shortstop Sammie Pemberton had four RBIs in the contest, hitting a two-run home run in the fourth inning – the first of her career – and a two-run double in the fifth.

In Game 2, the Raiders scored two runs in the first and 10 in the second, taking advantage of Knights starter Kila Makanani's four walks. Henderson, Moultrie and Sarah Kerling all had run-scoring extra-base hits in the second.

Mayze Menefee started in the circle and Katie Fodge pitched two innings of scoreless relief.

The Raiders were charged with just one error on the day, the only one they've committed over their last four games.

They and the Knights play two more Sunday starting at 11 a.m.
